UEA LAW SOCIETY
The Law Society is one of the largest and most successful student societies at UEA, being nominated for both the Academic Society of the Year and the Society of the Year in 2016 and 2018, respectively.
The UEA Law School is exceptional, currently ranked 18th on the 2023 Guardian University Subject League Table. Our 91% satisfaction rate is at least in some part attributable to the work of the Society, which provides an invaluable array of competitions, careers and social events supported by our excellent sponsors.
We pride ourselves on offering great extra-curricular opportunities to our members, which complement both law and non-law degree programmes. This is why we have been nationally recognised for our efforts and endeavours, being awarded the Best Pro Bono award for four consecutive years (including that of 2019) at the Student Law Society Awards. These opportunities are essential to anyone interested in expanding their transferrable skills.
The Society now runs eight competitions: Mooting, Negotiations, Client Interviewing, Mediation, Legal Triathlon, Commercial Enterprise, Mock Trials and the Commercial Awareness Essay Competition. The competitions are split into beginner and advanced tiers and continuously prove hugely popular and of an exceptional standard.
We also offer careers and skills workshops, networking events and open lectures to boost our members' employability and increase their exposure to firms and chambers. At the same time, the Society provides an enjoyable and diverse social calendar.
All of this has led to the Union of UEA Students highlighting that the Law Society won their most coveted award 'not only for its brilliant socials but also for running competitions and trips which are essential for career development, a brilliant and successful connection with the Law School and running employment and career events nearly every week.'
